What we collect

YearToAvoid does not require accounts and does not ask for personal information. Our web analytics are cookieless and aggregate (page views, referrers, country, device type). Server logs containing IP addresses are kept for security for up to 30 days.

Recall check tool

When you use the VIN recall check, the VIN you enter is sent to our server and forwarded to NHTSA’s public API to retrieve recall information. VINs are cached for up to 24 hours to reduce load on NHTSA and are not linked to you.

Advertising and cookies

We may show advertising served by Google AdSense and related-search units from advertising partners. These partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings and aboutads.info.

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are shown a consent dialog (a Google-certified consent management platform) before any advertising cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time from the “Privacy settings” link in the footer.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

Residents of California and other U.S. states with privacy laws may opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal. You may also opt out by emailing [email protected] with the subject “Do Not Sell or Share”. We do not knowingly sell data of anyone under 16.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data. Because we hold almost none, most requests can be answered immediately: email [email protected].
